Frequently Asked Questions
A FEW THINGS YOU MAY BE WONDERING
-
There are as many definitions of Tantra as there are people who have experienced it. Tantra is best understood through experience, not study. The word itself literally means "to loom" or "to weave." It's a way of experiencing the world by being completely immersed in it, rather than separate from it. In the West, Tantra is often associated with sexuality, and while sexual energy is an important part of many tantric practices, the teachings extend to all of life. Tantra expands our capacity for pleasure, ecstasy, and bliss, as well as for uncertainty, grief, pain, and fear. It teaches us how to hold multiple truths at once, and how to transform uncomfortable emotions into creative fuel for building the life we want.
-
Not at all. Many people arrive at Joytown completely new to tantra-informed work, embodiment practices, or somatic healing.
-
Yes. Joytown offers experiences for both individuals and couples. Whether you're coming alone to do personal healing work or with a partner to deepen intimacy and connection, the experience is tailored to your unique dynamic and intentions.
-
At Joytown, Tantra is approached as a practice of presence, embodiment, connection, intimacy, awareness, and relational healing.
-
Yes. We bring a trauma-informed approach to all tantric and somatic work. Sessions are held with deep care, attunement, and the understanding that healing is not linear. You set the pace. Safety and consent are foundational to everything we do.
-
Absolutely. Every experience is personalized based on your intentions, comfort level, relational dynamics, and desired areas of exploration or support.
-
Transformational Sessions open to the public are generally limited to 3 or 4 participants. Private Groups can range from 3-20 people. We maintain a high staff-to-participant ratio throughout so that every person receives devoted, individualized attention.
-
Yes, and this is some of the work we hold most tenderly. Many of the people who find their way to Joytown carry histories of sexual trauma, assault, or deep shame around the body and sexuality. This work can be profoundly healing for those experiences — and it is always approached with the utmost care, patience, and sensitivity. Our approach is trauma-informed at its core, meaning sessions are never rushed, consent is ongoing and explicit. If this is part of your history, we welcome you to share that during your preparation call so we can hold your experience with the care and intentionality it deserves.
-
Tantra-informed work can include the realm of sexuality and erotic energy, but this is NOT sexual service. This work is rooted in presence, attunement, safety, and the body as a vehicle for healing and awakening. Sessions are always guided by your intentions, comfort level, and explicit consent.
